Our “newsletters” are used for free lessons and motivation. Other times, they’re advertisements for new products. Sometimes we offer discounts on existing products. Most of the time there is very little real news in the newsletters. Today is different. Not only is there real news but there are a bunch of other things I’ll cover including discounts on products. You might even be able to “earn” a 20% discount on anything that we’ve got. You may not like the word “earn” because that normally means effort. Well, the effort that is required will take you about 5 minutes. That’s not bad, right?
Out of Time
So let’s get started. The video on this page is of the song Out of Time performed by Me (Doug Marks), Lonnie Vencent (Hawk, Bullet Boys, King Kobra), Paul Mervosh (Ham Sandwich), and Jim Gillette (Nitro). I wrote this song for the Songwriting Series. I used the composition to show how to write and record original music. This program was recorded in 1995 so some of the equipment suggestions are outdated. But for the most part, the information about midi, drum machines, computer sequencers and other songwriting tools is still relevant. This week I created a download of the course for a student. So, I’m making the download available for everyone. The DVD was already available. For this week only you can use the coupon code legacy-10 to get $10 off of the Songwriting Series. (approximately 4 hours of video). This coupon can be used for an additional $10 off of the 1983 course, 1988 course, and the 1992 course. It can be used along with a 20% off coupon that I’ll explain later.
There have been 3 complete revisions of The Complete Basic Course
Although I’ve revised the Complete Basic Course many times, at least nine times; there have only been 3 versions of the course. The original version was created in 1982 on audio cassette. We still sell the 1983 course which used the original version. The 1988 course on video was still the first version. The next major revision was the 1992 version of the course. We have offered this on DVD for several years, last week I created the digital download for this course. The most recent version of the course is the 2007 course. It’s the 3rd full revision.
This is going to sound like a sales pitch but I swear it’s the truth. And… it’s also a sales pitch. Each of these courses is different and still relevant. They all share many of the same exercises but there are also different exercises in each program (otherwise they wouldn’t be revisions). The early version of the course was a product of the 80’s and was heavier than the revisions that followed. The 1992 version was so good it wasn’t revised for 17 years! That’s right, kept selling the same course for 17 years and hey…. I’m still in business. Must’ve been pretty good. Right? I actually taught sweep picking and a bunch of other techniques that aren’t in the current course. I also showed step-by-step how to adjust the truss rod and intonation. In the 2 earlier versions of the course there were a lot of guitar tricks explained. By the time 2007 rolled around I was less interested in tricks. Now, I’ve decided they’re not so bad.
Anyway, my point is, these are still great learning tools. They’re all worth way more than what I’m charging for them. Use this coupon legacy-10 to save an additional $10 off of each of these legacy courses today.
The Guitar Mastery Package Reconfigured
On October 1st I looked over lesson sales for the previous quarter and picked out the 16 most popular lessons. They’re in the latest version of The Mastery Package. You can substitute any program for a preferred lesson. Just send a message via our contact form.
One thing that you’ll notice is, Michael Angelo Batio now has four programs in the package. This is because of the strength of his recent release No Boundaries Note-for-Note. Even though it wasn’t released until the end of September it still ranks as our number one selling program for the last quarter. Two of the Speed Kills lessons were also recorded last year and included in the package along with Speed Kills 3 which was originally called Speed Kills 2010 (recorded that year). So, the entire Speed Kills Package is in the Mastery Package.
Guitar World created a post on their Facebook Page about my Free 4 Week Lead Guitar Course. You can find the post on the Guitar World timeline October 14 at 10:37 a.m. If you don’t know much about Metal Method, click-on the comments. Our students will enlighten you. We’ve helped a lot of people since 1982 and many are proud to share it. Thanks everyone for the great comments. Thanks Guitar World.
I handle most of Metal Method’s customer service issues personally. To do this as efficiently as possible I have a “cheat sheet.” My cheat sheet covers everything from easy to learn songs to downloading our lessons to an iPad. You may find the answer to one of your questions here. Doug’s Cheat Sheet.
