Metal Method guitar lessons have been around since 1982.  But let me tell you this, we’re not your Grandpa’s Metal Method unless your Grandpa is a shredmaster, Classic Rock aficionado, or Metal Guitar fan.  If so, maybe we are your Grandpa’s Metal Method.  lol We have been around for almost forty years.

Still, almost everything on the site has been produced or updated recently.  Doug Marks does have “legacy” versions of every revision of his course since the beginning.  This is mainly for those that learned to play using an early version of his course but they’re pretty cool to check out for those that didn’t get to experience the heavy metal craze of the 80’s.

World Class Instructors

The following instructors are listed in the order that they showed up here at Metal Method’s Southern California Music Complex (also known as the house where Doug lives.)

Doug Marks – Yep, the original Metal Method instructor has been here since 1982.  He was a solo act for almost a decade.  His guitar course was the first set of instructions followed by many of today’s rock stars.  Check out his lessons here.  Next up…

Michael Angelo Batio – In 1991, the original speed demon, shredmaster joined the lineup.  I don’t know, are two guys really a lineup?  If so, they’re the original pair.  If you want to learn shred guitar technique, it seems like the original shredmaster would be a good place to start.  Check out Michael’s lessons here including the infamous Speed Kills.  Who’s next?

Sarah Spisak – Sarah ordered Doug’s original course in 1982 (an early adopter) and in one way or another has been around ever since.  She started working closely with Doug on our original forum.  Then, Sarah produced her own lessons beginning in 2008.  Want to learn theory, cool riffs and licks?  That’s Sarah’s forte.  Check out her lessons here.  Next on the scene…

Dee J Nelson – Creator of Lead Guitar DNA and Monster Power Chords in 2009.  Dee J, has a unique method for teaching Power Chords and progressions along with theory.  His two-string arpeggios are awesome.  Check out Dee J’s work here.  Next up, neo-classical shredder…

Dan Mumm – Dan’s been with us since 2010.  He has a half dozen awesome programs that cover everything from modern fretboard tapping, to shred guitar and classical masterpieces.  If you want neo-classical shred, check out Dan’s lessons.  But wait… there’s more…

Will Flaherty – Will learned from Doug and Michael’s courses in the late 90’s and was part of our Forum at the time.  He’s famous for over the top Extreme Metal.  If you love today’s massive rhythm guitar, Will’s got that covered and much more.  He’s as good a lead player as he is an awesome rhythm master.  Check out Will’s lessons here.  And last, but not least…

We have Tracy Longo’s Guitar Setup and Repair, Dave Bate’s “In the Style of” series, and then there’s our resident madman, vocalist Jim Gillette with his classic Vocal Power.
